10 Autumn Book Recs

HELLO, MY DRAGON-PRECIOUSES.

AUTUMN IS COMING. WHICH MEANS THAT WINTER IS COMING. Which means that Thanksgiving and winter breaks draw ever-nearer, and that means cozy nights spent by the fireside, listening to the pitter-patter of cold, soft rains as you crack open a fresh, new book and sip hot tea... WHICH BASICALLY MEANS ONE-HUNDRED-SIXTY DAYS OF ATMOSPHERIC AWESOMENESS. πŸ‚

Of course, finding new books to read can be hard ( ⮘⮘ that's a lie), so here are ten, lovely stories to add to your autumn TBR:

1. THE COMPANIONS QUARTET BY JULIA GOLDING

1. SECRET OF THE SIRENS
2. GORGON'S GAZE
3. MINES OF THE MINOTAUR
4. CHIMERA'S CURSE

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

First awesome thing: this series is set in England, in a fictional town called Hescombe. There's adventure, magical creatures, and, of course, superpowers (there are also some pretty epic library scenes!!!!). If you're a fan of Percy Jackson, you'll love this. 🐍

2. OUT OF TIME BY NADINE BRANDES

1. A TIME TO DIE
2. A TIME TO SPEAK
3. A TIME TO RISE

{Cover image source. Background image source.}

Who knew that there's such a thing as cozy dystopian?? I certainly didn't.

The Out of Time series is a three-book series of rustic cabins, coffee shops, and a unique approach to the meaning of life, with a beautiful dose of faith added in. Basically like nothing you've ever read before. πŸ’š

3. HARRY POTTER BY J.K. ROWLING

1. THE SORCERER'S STONE
2. THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS
3. THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN
4. THE GOBLET OF FIRE
5. THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX
6. THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE
7. THE DEATHLY HALLOWS

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

Harry Potter was the series that first introduced me -- properly -- to fantasy. We have wizards, potions, castles, mythical creatures, and, of course, "daring sword fights, magic spells, and a prince in disguise!" πŸ˜‰

There's so much to learn from this series, whether it be about writing, friendships, or school. (Also, prepare to develop the unrealistic expectation that ALL BOARDING SCHOOLS = CASTLES, RIGHT??) Harry Potter is amazing.

4. THE ILYON CHRONICLES BY JAYE L. KNIGHT

1. RESISTANCE
2. THE KING'S SCROLLS
3. SAMARA'S PERIL
4. EXILES
5. BITTER WINTER
~ MORE TO COME! ~

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

Think The Ranger's Apprentice with a touch of ancient Rome. There are gladiators, dragons, black wolves, giants, dwarves, forest camps, and Christians on the run from persecution. If you like Narnia or John Flanagan, then you'll love this. πŸ’™

5. LONG LAKE LEGACY BY IVY ROSE

1. THE OLD RIVER ROAD
2. ALONG THE RIVERBANK
~ MORE TO COME! ~

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

In Long Lake Legacy, Ivy Rose takes her own family history from the late 1800s and spins into a new classic, worthy to sit alongside the works of Louisa May Alcott and Laura Ingalls Wilder. These books have such a comforting feel to them: readers watch Clara, Ivy's own ancestor, grow from student, to fiancΓ©e, to wife, to mother. Long Lake Legacy makes for the perfect autumn read. πŸ’›

6. THE FAMILY OF NIGHT BY ANNE ELISABETH STENGL

1. A BRANCH OF SILVER, A BRANCH OF GOLD
~ MORE TO COME! ~

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

I'm a longtime Anne Elisabeth Stengl fan. And I believe her characters, worlds, and plots have never shown as brightly or as brilliantly as they do in A Branch of Silver, a Branch of Gold. Anne Elisabeth takes the fairytale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses, and twists it into a bold new fantasy, so alive yet so terrifying, and so very irresistible. πŸ‘‘

7. A DREAM NOT IMAGINED BY SHANTELLE MARY HANNU

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

Balls, glass slippers, and political intrigue come alive in Shantelle Mary Hannu's debut, a warm, sparkling, romantic Cinderella retelling, perfect for snuggling into bed with on a chilly autumn's eve. πŸ‘

8. RED'S UNTOLD TALE BY WENDY TOLIVER

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

For fans of ABC's Once Upon a Time, Ruby's tale is expanded into a four-hundred-page adventure, featuring werewolves, bakeries, village scandal, and all the wonder the Enchanted Forest has to offer. πŸΊ

9. ELLA ENCHANTED BY GAIL CARSON LEVINE

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

Another Cinderella retelling, Mrs. Levine brings the tale to life with the question: what if Cinderella had to do everything she was told? Ella Enchanted carries a story of epic quests, unlikely friendships, and young love, making for a flawless romance that's perfect for a mid- to late-autumn read. 🍁

10. THE LUNAR CHRONICLES BY MARISSA MEYER

1. CINDER
2. SCARLET
3. CRESS
4. WINTER

{Book cover source. Background image source.}

Classic fairytales set in outer space, The Lunar Chronicles tell the story of a cyborg who falls in love with a prince... who's human. This series stands out as a mystical, science-fiction ideal, sure to become an instant favorite... and serve as a transforming fall read. πŸ€–

  3. You've got some great books on there :)
    And quite a few I'm looking forward to reading one day.
    Very jealous that you guys get Autumn though, Spring here is a looming shadow of a Summer to come.
    If you want a book recommendation, I'd say the Tormay trilogy by Christopher Bunn, very good Fantasy, bit of an allegory and the first book's free :)

  5. ... what's that I hear? I think it's the sound of my tbr exploding xD.

    This was an epic post, Liv! I've read about half the books on it (OUT OF TIME <3), but all the others somehow creeped their way onto my fall reading list. Sneaky little books.
