HELLO, MY DRAGONS. π I am SO EXCITED to be here today, to share about an epic new story with y'all -- The Story Peddler by Lindsay A. Franklin, releasing May 1st from Enclave Publishing! πππ
This book, y'all... I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START. I am so, crazy excited for it to release! Magic, treason, storytelling... "Selling stories is a deadly business." π Without further ado, The Story Peddler:
ABOUT THE BOOK
BOOK ONE OF THE WEAVER TRILOGY
Selling stories is a deadly business.
Tanwen doesn't just tell stories -- she weaves them into crystallized sculptures that sell for more than a few bits. But the only way to escape the control of her cruel mentor and claw her way from poverty is to set her sights on something grander: becoming Royal Storyteller to the king.
During her final story peddling tour, a tale of treason spills from her hands, threatening the king himself. Tanwen goes from peddler to prey as the king's guards hunts her down... and they're not known for their mercy. As Tanwen flees for her life, she unearths long-buried secrets and discovers she's not the only outlaw in the empire. There's a rebel group of weavers... and they're after her too.
INTERVIEW
Hello, Lindsay! I'm SO excited to have you here with us, today! First off, would you mind introducing yourself and The Story Peddler?
Hi, Liv and friends! I'm Lindsay, and I'm a full-time author, part-time editor, part-time homeschooling mom of three geeklings, full-time regular mom of the same geeklings plus three fabulous felines, and full-time wife of almost eighteen years. The Story Peddler is the tale of Tanwen, an ambitious young storyteller trying to work her way up to a royal position. But when wild story strands burst from her hands during a public story-peddling tour, accusing the king of treachery, Tanwen finds out just how deadly a business selling stories can be.
If you could pick one message for your readers to gain from The Story Peddler, what would it be?
Honor your God-given gifts, whatever they may be. There is hope and light and humor and healing to be found in even the darkest of circumstances. There are more, but I'll stop, lest I begin to sound like a fortune cookie. *grins*
If you could spend an afternoon having tea with one character from The Story Peddler, who would it be and why?
Ooh, this is tough! Tanwen would be the most fun. But Princess Braith would have the best tea in Urian. Brac's mam would have excellent hathberry tea from her garden, but I don't think Brac presents the best option for good conversation...
Without any / too many spoilers (π), what was your favorite part of The Story Peddler's writing process?
I wrote three different versions of The Story Peddler. The last major revision was completed about three years ago, and in that revision, my agent challenged me to dig into the emotional lives of my characters more because it seemed like that was missing. She didn't know it, but I'd been dealing with really tough emotional stuff in real life and my writing at the time reflected my reluctance to dive into that stuff in my own heart. So in that third revision, I went there, and you'll see even more of that in The Story Peddler's sequel. It's healing to deal with that tough stuff in a fictional space, so while it was the hardest part of writing The Story Peddler, it was also my favorite.
What is something you wish you knew as a young author that you'd like to share now?
It's important to find your own voice as a storyteller. When we're learning to write novels, it's normal and natural to pull from our influences and tell stories like the masters we love. But if you're a storyteller, you have something unique to share with the world in a way only you can say it. Find that. Nurture it. That's what makes you you and that's what will make people talk about your writing and want to journey alongside you as you take them on fantastic adventures.
Thank you so much for your time, Lindsay! It's been a pleasure to have you here! π

I adore the cover, and the story itself sounds fantastic!
ReplyDeleteGreat interview!
Oh, I absolutely loved the writing "advice" she gave! That was beautiful and loved that you asked that question, Liv. :) Also, I wouldn't mind having tea with Princess Braith either. ;)
