ALL THAT WE SEE OR SEEM by Kristina Mahr // Blog Tour & Character Interview

HULLO AGAIN, MY DRAGONS! I'm positively thrilled to be sharing Uncommon Universes Press's latest release, All That We See or Seem by Kristina Mahr! I was a part of the cover reveal team back in March, and I am SO. STOKED. FOR THIS BOOK, Y'ALL. Dream realms, arranged marriages, nightmarish cities, lords and ladies... I. CAN'T. WAIT. 😍😍😍

Without further ado, here's All That We See or Seem...

ABOUT THE BOOK

BOOK ONE OF THE DREAMWORLD DUOLOGY

Every night, seventeen-year-old Reeve Lennox finds herself under a noose.

By day she is a lady of Acarsaid's royal house, daydreaming of adventure and love. But every night in sleep she wanders through a nightmarish city, an invisible witness to the screeches of monsters and the screams of their victims. Her only consolation is Bran, a battle-torn young man with a selfless heart and eyes that reflect the stars.

Yet while Reeve falls deeper into her dreams, in truth she is engaged to Arden, a mercurial nobleman who has long been cured of his belief in love and breathes fire and flattery like other people breathe air.

Torn between two lives, Reeve struggles to remember what's real. Until night and day collide, with a revelation that threatens all of Acarsaid.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW: LADY REEVE LENNOX

{From top to bottom & left to right: Source 1Source 2Source 3Source 4Source 5Source 6.}

Welcome, Reeve! I'm so glad you can join us! First off, would you mind introducing yourself?

Thank you! It's truly my pleasure. I suppose I should say that my name is Lady Reeve Lennox, niece to King Carrick and Queen Everly, but... just Reeve is fine, really.

How do you spend your days in Acarsaid?

I spend a great deal of time wandering with my guards. We picnic on the hilltop, we walk along the pier. I have tea with Everly some days, when she has the time. And every chance I get, I read. One book in particular, really. I know that I should branch out, read something new, but oh, that story just pulls me in. It's about an adventure, the greatest of adventures, and when I read it, I can imagine myself within it. I know I am so lucky in my life, but I just hope to someday have a real and true adventure.

I understand that you're engaged to Arden, who's been described as "a mercurial nobleman who has long been cured of his belief in love, and breathes fire and flattery like other people breathe air." Is there anything you do admire or respect about him?

Oh, Arden. It's difficult not to admire him, but don't tell him I said so. He's just so... at home in his own skin. He is who he is, and he makes no apologies for it, and it's hard not to admire that trait. It's also hard not to admire the way he looks. Really don't tell him that, the man's ego is appalling. But the dancing green eyes, the artful disarray of his hair, the smile that is really more smirk, except when he softens it for me... it's all quite a lot to take.

I know that your dreams are rather terrifying, but do you ever find goodness in the nightmare world? What form does it come in?

There is one beacon of light in that horrible place, and it comes in quite an appealing form, truth be told. There's a boy there. I started seeing him a couple of months ago, out near the lake, and I've worked up the nerve to sit beside him a time or two. He's beautiful in the moonlight. I'm guessing he's beautiful in any light, but as I only ever see him in the dark, the moon is all I have to tell by. I don't know why he risks his life by going out at night on those terrible streets, all to come sit beside a lake for a few hours and run his fingers through the water. I so desperately wish I could ask him. It's the only time I've ever wished to be visible there -- when I'm sitting next to him.

If you could have one day to spend however you please, what would you do?

If I'm bound by my real life, I would want a day to be free. To wander the village without a full contingent of guards. To have an adventure somehow, somewhere. But if I'm not bound by my real life... I would want to spend it with the boy from my nightmares. I would want him to see me, to truly see me. I would ask him all of the questions I've been dying to ask. And I would like to finally know what color his eyes are.

WANTED: A SUPERHERO TO SAVE THE WORLD // Blog Tour, Character Interview, & Giveaway

HELLO, MY PRECIOUS DRAGON FRENS. Today, I'm positively THRILLED to be sharing with y'all a bit about Bryan Davis's latest release, a middle-grade novel, titled, Wanted: a Superhero to Save the World!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Eddie Hertz is smart, real smart. He has to be. What other twelve-year-old patrols the streets of Nirvana alone, hoping to foil the schemes of the evil Mephisto? Since Eddie is small for his age, he trusts in his Batman-style gadgets belt and acrobatic skills as well as lots of experience, like knowing how to swing across dark alleys without being seen.

Eddie has a dream, to become like Damocles, Nirvana’s great superhero. To make that dream come true, Eddie invented a device that is supposed to give him superpowers, but using it on himself is dangerous, maybe even fatal. He doesn't have the nerve to try it.

When Mephisto unleashes an earthquake machine on the city, Eddie gets a surprising teammate -- his quirky eight-year-old sister, Samantha, who comes up with an unexpected way to help Eddie in the frantic battle to prevent the biggest earthquake of all. Since Damocles has lost his ability to help in physical form, Eddie and Samantha are the only hope for Nirvana and the world.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bryan Davis is the author of several bestselling series, including Dragons in Our Midst and the Reapers trilogy, speculative fiction for youth and adults. Bryan and his wife, Susie, work together as an author/editor team to create his imaginative tales.

CHARACTER INTERVIEW

Eddie, why did you decide to invent a device that could potentially give you superpowers?
Wait. Who told you about that?
Actually, I--
Did my sister tell you? She's supposed to keep it a secret.
No, not Samantha, but as a journalist, I have to keep my sources confidential.
All right. I get that.
Back to the question. Why did you invent it?
So I could protect my mother and sister. And to be like Damocles.
Ah! Nirvana's own superhero. Who wouldn't want to be like him?
Tell me about it. He's so amazing! Just a few days ago, he saved fourteen people, three cats, and a blind parakeet from a blazing building. And he caught the guy who set the fire. Nabbed him while swinging down on a line from the top of the building, carrying a cat in one hand and grabbing the guy by the collar with the other. Now that's the kind of stuff I want to do, but I need to get a lot stronger. That's why I needed the invention.
My sources also tell me that your invention didn't work. Do you know why?
Oh, it worked, just not on me.
How interesting. On whom did it work? Your sister?
That’s another secret.  And whatever you do, don't ask her. She won't stop talking till Doomsday.
All right, let's shift to another subject. Two kids, you and your sister, Samantha, saved the world from Mephisto's earthquake machine. How did you do it?
Sam and I had to find the earthquake machine and disable it. Let me tell you, it was hard, but we had a lot of help -- my mom, a guy named Milligan, and a strange old man named Gilbert, and some of the gadgets that Damocles left for me to use.
Speaking of Damocles, why didn't he help you himself? Where was he?
Now that's hard to explain. Let's just say that he had to be somewhere else. But don't worry. He didn't just take off like a coward and leave us. He would never do that.
I see. Something tells me that the reason for his absence is another secret.
Yep. I would never give away any of Damocles's secrets.
Well, since Damocles hasn’t been seen in a while, that means you and Samantha are now Nirvana's greatest heroes. How does it feel?
All right, I guess. Actually, not many people know what really happened. I kind of want to keep it that way. You know, let them think Damocles did it. So if you'll keep our secret, I'd appreciate it.
But I'm sure people want to help your family. After all, the earthquakes did a lot of damage to your apartment building. Trust me, your mother will love to get their help.
All right. You can let people know. I'll just have to keep Sam's head from getting bigger or from making her superhero name longer than it already is.
Her superhero name?
Yeah, right now it's Princess Queenie Unicorn Iris Ponyrider Buttercup Olive Lover Rosey Is Posey.

No, it's not! You got it wrong again!

No, I didn't! That's the name you first told me when--

That's all the time I have today, Eddie. Thank you for the interview!
